PHOTOGRAPHER: STEVEN PAUL WHITSITT
This 1920s Tudor in Hyde Park, Ohio, received a variety of upgrades over the years, but it was still in need of a major kitchen facelift in order to restore it to its original glory. The homeowners were unhappy with the mismatched appliances and nonfunctional layout. The cooktop was located in the island, which left the island seating cramped and the overall work triangle nonexistent.

They tapped Patrick H. Ryan, CKD, of Kitchen Concepts, Inc., with the remodel, requesting that he incorporate a full suite of modern appliances and ample storage while achieving an overall elegant, classic design.
First, Ryan added an island and accommodated the homeowners’ seating requirements. He also maximized the windows to allow plenty of natural light into the fairly small space kitchen. This design decision became even more beneficial when an almost black finish with an extra high 70-degree sheen was selected for the custom color-matched main cabinets.
Additional notable features include custom trapezoid windows that frame the hood and a tile backsplash of handmade tiles by Sonoma Tilemakers. With unique touches like these and modern amenities blended with a classic aesthetic, the homeowners are thrilled with their timeless Tudor kitchen.
