Located in Lee, Massachusetts, this second home serves as an everyday escape and entertainment retreat for a New Yorker. But the layout was lacking, as it didn’t fully utilize the space available. Plus, the wall cabinets were too short, and while the kitchen opened to the dining room, different flooring hindered the visual flow.
Ready for a remodel, the homeowner challenged Mariette Barsoum, CKD, of Divine Kitchens with a culinary reconfiguration to make the design fit the scale of the space. Her other goals included making the space user friendly, full of storage, and comfortable.
To start, Barsoum took the new cabinets to the ceiling and added decorative trims and moldings. Other notable features include eco-friendly concrete countertops, which are made to look like marble by folding two colors together for a “veining” look, and a backsplash made from recycled materials.
Barsoum matched up the hardwood floors in the kitchen with the open dining area, which made the spaces flow together seamlessly. This new cooking-dining connection, combined with the kitchen’s new large island with seating for five, makes both formal dinner parties and more casual entertaining a breeze. With every inch of her culinary quarters put to use, this homeowner is thrilled with her stylish, on-scale space. Learn more about this designer at www.divinekitchens.com.
