PHOTOGRAPHER: PETER RYMWID
These clients purchased a beautiful horse farm in Tewksbury, New Jersey, and hired architects Tony Kowidge and Joel Ives from IS&L to handle the whole-house redo. For the complete kitchen redesign, the architects knew where to go: Amir J. Ilin from Küche+Cucina.

The kitchen had a dividing wall between the main kitchen area, so Ilin started the transformation by taking down the wall and opening the kitchen work area. The new scheme allows for a much better flow and creates a bigger cooking space, which now houses the appliances and a prep island. Ilin compensated for the lack of wall space by adding a pair of storage pantries and a custom six-door storage cabinet, using the same finishes as the kitchen. He then positioned them between the kitchen and the living area.
Ilin designed two very unique islands. One is for cooking, with a large, raised, industrial-like stainless steel surface for food preparation. Its lower section boasts a high-gloss lacquer over ebony wood—a warm counterpoint to the stainless steel. The second island is for entertaining, outfitted with five bar stools and a glass counter area. Lastly, Ilin inserted three ovens and a coffee maker in the outside wall of the walk-in pantry. The new kitchen was now ready for a cup of espresso or an Italian feast. Learn more about this designer at www.kuche-cucina.com.
