When this small family in Woodstock, Illinois, decided to build the house they had always dreamed of, they knew they would need to dedicate special attention to the kitchen. Regular hosts of parties and intimate get-togethers, they wanted a design that was not only functional for entertaining but also dynamic in appearance. To deliver on their desired atmosphere, they hired designer Carol Begalka of Kitchen Gallery of Spring Grove.
Within the long layout, Begalka incorporated abundant counter space along the perimeter and with an oversized center island, which houses a sink, an ice maker, and raised microwave, helping keep food prep and clean up separate. Also making meal time a breeze is a pot filler, warming drawer, and double waste baskets. Additional surface space is found with the pedestal-supported peninsula, which provides visual separation between the kitchen and living area as well as a place to sit and enjoy a casual meal.
Aside from the bold physical layout, the most eye-catching aspect of this kitchen is the two-tone trim and two-tone cabinetry featuring maple cabinets with cherry doors. When combined with the maple floors with decorative inlay, this complementary-yet-contrasting cabinetry design is especially energizing—just what the homeowners ordered!
