PHOTOGRAPHER: STEVEN PAUL WHITSITT
A husband and wife who love to cook and entertain desired more storage and a seating area to allow for informal dining with their frequenting family and friends. To remodel their Westfield, Massachusetts, kitchen, they called on designer Brian Fortier of Interstate Custom Kitchen & Bath, Inc.

To achieve the clients’ requests in the tight area, Fortier had the wall between the kitchen and dining room removed, which brought in more natural light from the multiple dining room windows. The couple now uses the dining room more than ever before since they no longer feel boxed in to the space.
The homeowners also desired multiple cooking areas for their regular meal-making extravaganzas, so Fortier incorporated a double oven and a 30-inch cooktop in the added island. Quartz countertops were a must not only for their beauty but also for their ability to withstand everyday wear and tear. Fortier then customized the wall cabinet heights to maximize storage and used multiple finishes—paint with glaze on the wall cabinetry and cherry wood with a sandalwood stain on the island—to create a true one-of-a-kind look.
The finishing touch was the customer’s own craftsmanship on the stained glass window above the sink area, a fitting finale to their newly customized cook’s nook. Learn more about this designer at www.interstatekitchens.com.
