In this Marco Island, Florida, culinary space, originally a tiny area, the largest challenge was the homeowner's desire for a gourmet kitchen. The challenge was due in large part to the oversized appliances the homeowners selected. For example, they wanted to include a 48-inch fridge, a 48-inch cooktop and an island in the newly designed space. Now it was up to the designers to come up with a viable solution.
To accommodate their every desire, Shannon Brace of Intercoastal Kitchen & Bath Remodeling Corp. and team removed the laundry room/pantry to extend the kitchen. They later had to find a space for the new laundry room. Brace also had to work around awkwardly placed building columns in the kitchen and bar. The team then had to trench into the concrete slab to run electric to the island. Some of the solutions were even more creative, such as the hood over the island, which is in fact a recirculation fan. There was no place to vent it as the ceilings in the condo measured just 96 inches.
When the work was completed, the resulting design was one that would meet every cook's fancy and is a stellar space the homeowners can enjoy for years to come.
