This kitchen in Kahala, an exclusive neighborhood in Honolulu, was completely remodeled by Susan Palmer CKD, CBD, of Susan Palmer Designs. The design needed to be modern yet complementary to the owner’s antique Korean furniture that is displayed throughout the home. The space also needed to be accessible and organized, with multiple storage spaces and a great deal of counter space for cooking and prep. This family of four also entertains often, so the kitchen’s layout had to be accommodating and highly livable.
During the process, there were a few challenges, such as overhead soffits and unusual existing construction and ducting systems. However, expert planning and innovative product solutions overcame each challenge.
The Pegaso Doors and sliding pantry exude uniqueness, as do the tempered glass counters and stainless steel counters. Magic corners and appliance garages were integrated to add functionality to the area, and the sleek Italian cabinetry intensifies the luxurious ambiance. As a special touch of safety, the countertops are hygienic surfaces such as glass and stainless steel, which inhibit bacterial growth typical of Hawaii’s tropical climate. In the end, the family got just what they desired: an elegant space high on function and design.
